Children between age three and 8th grade are invited to come to Sunday school, where each week the Bible lessons and activities teach and apply God’s Word. Children of congregation members, of prospective members and visitors are all welcome! Sunday school begins in September of each year on the Sunday after Labor Day and runs through the end of May of the following year.
Children new to the congregation or to the area may join at any time during the school year. Class time is from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m., between the two worship services. The Sunday school materials are from the “Growing in Christ” series by Concordia Publishing House which provides a broad study of Old and New Testament Bible stories. This curriculum is designed for each age and is different than the curriculum used in our Lutheran Elementary School. Sunday school students are grouped in two grades per classroom, with the exception of preschool (ages 3 and 4), and kindergarten, which are each in their own classroom. Each classroom has assigned teachers, with parent and teen helpers as needed. Current enrollment in Sunday school is approximately 100 students.
Our Sunday school class hour includes studying the Bible story, working on activities or projects related to the Bible story, snack time (for the younger children) and music time. Offerings may be given for mission work and there are often special mission projects such as collections of Christmas gifts for needy children or food for a needy family or food pantry. The children in grades 1 – 8 participate in the Christmas Eve children’s service, and all classes sing for worship two or three other times during the year. A Sunday school newsletter is published once a month to keep parents informed of upcoming activities.
